I was wrong about one thing, and if one had been at our White Con last October in London, one would have heard a lecture as to why I was wrong.

Not in Derbyshire, which is landlocked, but farther east along the North Sea coast, where there are a number of sea caves, there might have been something that inhabited the sea caves. And this something might have been worshiped by some sort of cult. And this cult might have practiced human sacrifice up to some time in the 1920's.
