Marsh in "Lair of the White Worm," that made her the perfect
serial killer. Actually, several things
Her self control for one thing. If she only killed one or two people a year, there would not be the suspicion attached to her, like some serial killers, who lost control and started killing off so many victims, that the authorities were forced to act. However, reluctant that action was.
Having lived there longer then anybody else, she probably knew the area better then anybody else. It was only happenstance that her car was seen in Temple Grove by Angus and Mary, which started the whole investigation rolling.
For the most part, she apparently worked alone. No accomplices to turn her in for the reward or testify against her at a chance of a lighter sentence for them.
Her status as being one of the largest landowners in the area would give her some shot at being treated deferentially by the local authorities.
The fact that she was a woman worked in her favor two ways.
First, as most serial killers are men, everyone tends to think of a serial killing being commited by a man and overlook the possibility that it may be commited by a woman.
Second, she is likely to arouse less suspicion in her victims. Whereas, Kevin might have been hesitant to get into a car with a strange man, he obviously had no hesitation into getting into a car with a strange woman.
Until next week and our conclusion of this topic with "What Is It About Her Victims That Made Them an Ideal Victim for a Serial Killer." Until then . . . Enjoy!
