"The key thing about the show will be their relationship."
I hope it is not a romantic relationship. Not only is it somewhat unethical for a superior to have a romantic relationship with an underling, but Amanda doesn't do romance that well (IMHO)
There didn't seem to be anytype of romantic attachment, acting or otherwise, between her and Kevin (Pitt) in "Lair of the White Worm." Of course, one would have to be something of a pedophile to become romantically attached to an 17-year-old actor. Still, if you look at her other roles and co-stars, and this may be just part of their roles, there did not seem to be much of a romantic attachment on her part, his part, or even their part.
Her part: with Oliver Reed in "Castaway."
His part: Eddie Cibran in "In the Beginning," Richard Chamberlain in "The Thorn Birds: the Missing Years," Hugh Grant in "Lair of the White Worm," and Jim Carrey in "Liar, Liar."
Their part: Gabriel Byrne and Amanda Donohe in "Diamond Skulls" and David Hemmings and Amanda Donohoe in "The Rainbow."
Actually, the only times I've thought of them as both being romantically attached is with Frank Langella in "I'm Losing You," with Sammi Davis in "The Rainbow," and with Victor Banerjee in "Foreign Body."
Now that is a thought, a cop show with our Amanda and her junior partner, who is a woman and a minority, too boot. I don't think I have seen that type of partnership too many times before.
In conclusion:
I guess the success of the program will depend upon the quality of the writing and the acting ability of the other characters in the show, which probably means it will be better then most American cop shows.
I would also like to see the show take place somewhere besides London, as London is Londoned out (IMHO) It is like setting all American cop shows either in Los Angeles or New York City, which now I think about it, is usually the case.
Until next week and "Hooded Angels" Enjoy!
