 As the film was released in 1988, we can presume the year is 1988.

From other clues in the film, we know that it is Sunday, March 20

After attending church and having lunch at the youth hostel, Kevin leaves Langsett at about 11:15 a.m.

He has about 10 miles to go, before his next stop at Longdendale, or, adtually, Crowden-in-Longdendale.

He reaches the crossroads, where is first see him at about 5:19.55 p.m. He has another 1.845 miles to go to Longdendale.

He spends about a minute at the crossroads, before Sylvia gives him a lift in her car. It is now 5:20.55 p.m.
