According to News5, Akron, Ohio, a man who last week resigned as an officer for the “Alliance Police Department is facing charges of illegal sexual activity with a” 14-year-old boy, a relative. Local police have requested the FBI’s assistance in analyzing the suspect’s hard drive.
“Steven Slimak “was originally charged with disseminating material harmful to juveniles, but now faces felony counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor…
I would not be surprised if more charges are filed," Alliance Police Chief Lawrence Dordea said. Slimak is accused of inappropriately touching a 14-year-old relative and allowing the boy to view pornography on his home computer. "I think it's very disappointing," said Mary Shollenberger, an Alliance resident. "He betrayed the public trust; I don't like that. (Officers) should be an example to the community."…The chief said that a quirk in the law makes it a felony to take inappropriate pictures of a child, but only a misdemeanor to inappropriately touch or molest a child. He said that when the case is over, officials plan to go to the Ohio Legislature to try to change that.”
