Subject: [NSSWOTA] Since I'm bored...I'm posting a little somethin' about the Flensers....this is stuff I wrote before, once upon a time in case it sounds familiar, though I'm writing it from memory.....

The Flenser project began in the early 1980's, headed by Dr. Julius Seivan. The goal of the project was to produce the ultimate fighting machine. However, after the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union, all funding for the project was cut off.

A furious Dr. Seivan sent several of the already completed Flensers to attack the UN council. Due to flaws in the design, the assault was a failure, and Dr. Seivan was forced into hiding. His current location is unknown, though he is suspected to be working with Blizzard Entertainment.

The Flenser

Flenser - stemming from the word "flense" meaning "To chop into very small peices"

Flenser Series, Mark I

The first class of Flenser Drones. A heavy alloy armor, and state of the art servo-mechanics. The only weapon system included consisted of a pair of chainguns mounted on each arm.

The Mark I employed the first known artificial intelligence system. Due to the prohibitive cost of creating a Flenser, the intellenge core was selected to model an animal known for its survivability, the rat.

Unfortunately, the Mark I was never effective. Instead of fighting, the Drones seemed content to crawl on its four limbs and nibble on lettuce. Technitions maintain that this was the result of a faulty rat, rather than through any inherant design flaw.

However, the Mark I's can be controlled remotely through the use of a VR linkup.

A large number of Mark I's are said to be in storage at the UN military base in Southern California.

Flenser Drone, Mark II

Learning from the mistakes in the Mark I series, the Flenser Drone Mark II sported overall improvements over the Mark I. Armor and servo-mechanics were upgraded, and a more efficent chaingun system employed.

To avoid the problems with the artificial intelligence, designers attempted to implant actual human brain tissue into the central processing unit. Unfortunately, this too, backfired as the human minds were unable cope with the adaptations to mechanical existance and often went berzerk. This condition has since been termed cyber-psychosis.

Although the cyber-pshchosis often made the Flensers better fighters, they became terribly unpredictable. On one occasion in 1994, fourteen technicians were killed when they lost control of a Mark II Flenser during a routine testing. The Mark II's were deactivated shortly after that occurance.

Only twelve Mark II's finished construction.

Flenser Drone, Mark III

The first Flenser Drone to become widely successful, the Mark III again hosted a number of improvements over the previous Mark I and Mark II series.

Armor and mechanics were further improved, as well as the notable addition of close combat assault blades.

Having given up on attempting to splice actual intelligence into the operating system, Dr. Seivan installed a standard comptuer AI, complete with protocol setups and verbal command phrases.

It was the Mark III's that were sent against the UN Council. Unfortunately, the Mark III is unusually susceptible to EMP, and when this was discovered, all but three of the Mark III's were destroyed.

No further Mark III's are believed to have been constructed.

Flenser Drone, Mark IV

Having made significant progress with the Mark III, designers continued the trend in the design of the Mark IV.

Along with significant improvements throughout the design, the bulky chainguns were replaced with high energy plasma discharge cannons.

Most noteworthy, is the addition of the Noisemaker 2,000 assault system, able to immobilize vast numbers of enemy troops in mere seconds. The exact function of this assault system is highly classified.

The Mark IV is still in testing phases, and only the prototype Mark IV is serviceable.

Other Flenser Projects.

It is rumored that Dr. Seivan has plans for a Mark V Flenser Drone, though details are sketchy.

Intercepted transmissions have also led to the suspicion of two other Flenser projects, entitled "Flenser Newborn" and "Flenser Doppleganger"

Aside from the belief that these projects do, in fact exists, nothing is know about what they are, or what they may include.
