Subject: I know what's happening!!!
In reply to: Omnivich 's message, "Question!!!" on 19:09:46 10/11/99 Mon

Nothing to be worried of Omnivich... you're computer likely will not blow up as a direct result of this, but you might consider purchasing a bomb shelther nonetheless.
I'm not sure you'll have an easy time purchasing something like a bomb shelter... let me know if you do though. That'd be interesting to say the least...
Anyhow, new messages appear in blue, as you mentioned.
However, let's take a step back. For you computer to display the message string in blue, it has to first know that the message hasn't been accessed before. And how does it do this you ask?
The answer lies in your temporary internet files and internet history folders. The information put into those folders tells your computer what sites you've accessed and what links you've clicked on. When information in these folders gets erased, you're computer forgets that you've visited certain sites or clicked on certain links. The information in these folders in frequently cleaned up by your computer as the history gets old. This means that information about links you clicked on a month ago has been erased by your computer because, quite frankly (as if anything I say when I'm in this mode is frank), you're system is set to consider internet information that old as being useless. Hence, your computer no longer knows that the link way down at the bottom of the page was once clicked on, and so it appears blue once again.
There are settings you can find in the Internet Options menu in your browser (assuming you use the same browser I do... I use IE 5.0 or something like that) that will let you modify how long your computer keeps information on the sites you go to. You can try fiddling around with things in there, or you can just run... run like hell... ha ha ha!!!

um... I'm not sure where those last few sentences came from... might be best to just disregard them all together.
Actually, it would have probably been most healthy to not even read this message, but if you're reading this then it's too late for you, because to read the warning, you have to at least read some part of my message, which will most likely screw you up and cause you to wake up in the middle of the night screaming unintelligible things about spatulas for no reason whatsoever... at least I hope it's for no reason whatsoever, because if there ever exists a reason for such antics... well... God help us all.
