This report appeared on "Stormont-Watch" on 04/25/02
Up to this date four selected prisoners have never been visited, whereas both parties may hay at the time on TV, radio and in the print media. Hot air comes cheap, by their deeds shall ye know them!

>SDLP / SF TO WITNESS JAIL CONDITIONS
>
>The make-up of a delegation to visit republican
>prisoner Ciaran McLaughlin in Maghaberry Prison was
>agreed at a meeting of Derry City Council on Tuesday.
>
>The four-member delegation will consist of the former
>SDLP Mayor of Derry, Colr. Mary Bradley and her party
>colleague Colr. Jim Clifford. The other two will be
>made up of Deputy Mayor Peter Anderson and Colr. Billy
>Page both PSF.
>
>Although the nationalist parties unanimously supported
>sending the delegation, there was opposition from the
>DUP benches. The Oct 5th Association expresses its
>disappointment, as their representative who attended
>an earlier meeting of the Council had called for a
>all-party delegation, which was agreed at the meeting
>on the previous Tuesday. He spoke alongside Bernadette
>McLaughlin, whose husband had endured a vicious attack
>some days earlier. [Reports of that attack are
>contained in STORMONT-WATCH]
>
>The delegation will however not merely visit Mr.
>McLaughlin, but will make contact with as many
>prisoners as possible, both loyalist and republican,
>and study the conditions in the jail. It is expected
>that they will raise certain matters with the prison’s
>governor. All this was welcomed by the Oct 5th
>Association this morning in a statement from
>oct5th_vets68@hotmail.com
