Dear Dr. Jagnani,

It your wife has a "vacuolar" myopathy (i.e. with inclusion bodies or rimmed vacuoles seen under the microscope in the muscle cells), it is possible that some antioxidants may help slow the process of muscle death. However, I need more information to help. please tell us the following:

date of onset of muscle weakness (what age)
muscle groups that are weaker than others
(specifically strengh of illiopsoas, quadricepts, foot dorsiflexors, plantar flexors, other flexors and extendors)
emg/ncs report results
muscle biopsy report/results
cpk level (serum)

Sincerely yours,
Daniel Darvish, MD
