Alli and Jess walked into the barn. The two 15 y/os chatted and then got their mares hooked in crossties. Feather snorted eagerly as Alli placed the dressage saddle on her back and tightened the girth. Flurry was dancing in place as Jess bridled her. After their mares were ready, they led them out to the dressage arena. Alli mounted lightly and pushed Feather onto the bit. The cute Arab mare tucked her head to her chest and tossed her legs out in a lovely extended walk. The dapple grey mare kept her strides balanced and gliding. Jess mounted and Flurry immediately skimmed forward in a smooth balanced trot. Jess squeezed the reins and the Saddlebred collected nicely. Both girls began their warm up, performing circles, serpentines, collections, and extensions at the walk and trot. Then, they both halted and began to plan out their ride. �Why don�t we canter one at a time and try some flying lead changes?� Jess suggested. Alli nodded and they decided she and Feather would go first. She pushed Feather into a balanced canter and kept the mare stepping lightly over the ground. As they went across their diagonal, H-X-F, Alli began to ask for flying lead changes. Every stride, Feather switched leading legs, her neck arched and back rounded as she concentrated. As they reached F, Alli collected the mare�s canter and guided her to C, where they glided up centerline. On centerline, they performed flying lead changes every stride, working as a seamless team. They rode back over to Jess and Flurry, grinning. �That was awesome! My turn!� Jess said entusiastically. She squeezed and Flurry moved into a perky, energetic canter. They did a circle, suppling up and then began a 3 loop serpentine. Switching leads smoothly after every turn, Flurry kept relaxed and calm as they began to switch every other side. Her slender grey legs tossed elegantly as she cantered up centerline. After that, Jess squeezed and Flurry extended her canter, seeming to float with her smooth, extended gait. They halted beside Alli and Feather, grinning. �Incredible! She has gotten so much better!� Alli said happily. Both girls smiled and worked their mares on some more collections and extensions at canter before leading them back to the barn. They untacked the two and took them out to where the hose was. Alli sprayed Feather�s glossy coat off and laughed when the mare bit down on the nozzle, sucking in the cool water. She let her drink for a minute and then pulled it away. She sweat scraped the Arab and then put her in her stall. She gave the mare her apple and wlaked back out to where Jess was starting to hose off Flurry. The Saddlebred was dancing around and snorting in contentment as the cool water flowed over her glossy coat. Flurry was put in her stall and then the two girls headed over to visit Alli�s pony, Spunk.
