*Hannah grooms Heaven and tacked him up quickly. the gelding dances in the crossties excitedly, sencing her excitement. Hannah puts on her helmet, leads the gelding out of the barn and mounts him. He prances down the trails, bucking excitedly. Hannah sits back and gently saws on the reins. he finally slows to a forward walk, mouthing the bit eagerly. After 10 minutes of walking, she gently squeezes the gelding into a trot and posts lightly for 25 minutes before she gets to the galloping stretch. she rises into a galloping position and bumps the gelding with her heels. he springs into a canter, then a gallop. They gallop down half of the stretch, then Hannah slows the gelding and works on his flying changes every 3 strides the rest of the way down the stretch. At first, Heaven bucks excitedly through each change, but soon he relaxes and changes leads perfectly every time Hannah asks. at the end of the stretch she walks the gray gelding on a long rein. when they get back to the barn, she untacks him then hoses him and lets him graze for 25 minutes before she turns him out. then she goes to find Saddle. "Mom, i'm going to get Dream tacked up now" Hannah tells Saddle. "Ok, i'll come help you ride after michelle and i finish counting bales of hay" Saddle replies, rolling her eyes. "Three hundred, four hundred, five hundred...." Michelle counts. Hannah giggles and walks back down to the main barn. she takes out Dream's tack and grooming gear, then goes and brings her filly in from the paddocks. It had been 9 months since Hannah had adopted the filly, and the beautiful horse had been laid up with a mildly pulled tendon. Her tendon had recovered perfectly and she was completely sound. for the last 3 weeks, Hannah had been lounging her with tack and getting the filly used to the new, heavier saddle and her new bit, a thick happy mouth french link snaffle. Hannah gives her horse a pepperment, then kisses her dark nose. Then she begins to tack her up. Dream snorts unhappily as Hannah tightens the girth and stomps her hind foot. then she lowers her head willingly to be bridled and eagerly snatches the bit out of Hannah's hand. Hannah lets go of the reins and puts on her helmet and gloves, then picks up her lounge line and lounge whip. She leads Dream to the riding ring and lounges her until Saddle comes out. "Ready?" Saddle asks. Hannah nods and takes a deep breath, then blows out slowly. She bows her head and Dream instantly stops and walks to Hannah. Hannah rolls the lounge line up as the filly walks to her, then rubs the filly's favorite spot, at the tip of her right ear. Hannah unclips the lounge line from Dream's bridle, then walks over to the mounting block. Dream follows her, her chin on Hannah's shoulder. Saddle grabs the filly's reins and Hannah slips her foot into the stirrup. Dream shifts her weight nervously. Hannah runs her hand down Dream's neck comfortingly, then mounts and gathers her stirrups. Saddle leads them around a few laps, then Hannah walks and trots Dream on her own. the filly wasn't like other ex-racers, she was quiet and willing and had very easygoing, almost lazy gait. Hannah only trots one lap in each direction before she walks the filly, then dismounts. She hoses the filly, then lets her graze until she is dry before turning her out.
