Date Posted: 05:32:22 09/07/02 Sat ![]() *Montana* ![]() *Zoe* Jon walked through the barn and opened Montana’s stall door. The blue roan QH colt tossed his mane and butted his owner affectionately. “Relax.” Jon laughed, hooking the colt in crossties. Montana pranced in place as Jon tacked him up. “Good boy!” the 15 y/o said as Montana accepted the bit easily. They walked out to the ring and Jon vaulted into the western saddle. Montana snorted impatiently and started out in a steady walk. Jon gave a contented sigh and sat deep in the saddle. He walked some circles each way, suppling Montana up. Then he squeezed and Montana jogged perkily forward, through some figure eights. After a thorough warm up, Jon halted Montana and glanced over the barrels. Montana chomped on the bit eagerly and pranced about. Jon nudged the colt with his heels and leaned slightly forward. The gelding flew out in a controlled, but incredibly fast gallop. Jon rated him before the barrel and pulled his inside hand to his knee gently. Montana twisted around the barrel and then flew toward the next one under Jon’s firm guidance. They turned tightly around it and headed for the third in excellent time. Montana leaned around it and then raced towards the finish line with blinding speed. “Good boy!” Jon praised exuberantly. Montana gave a shrill whinny in excitement and then broke into a lope, tossing his head playfully. “You’re full of it!” Jon laughed. He calmed the excited gelding and then urged him through the clover leaf pattern again. “Good boy!” Jon praised happily. He dismounted and smiled as he led Montana to the barn. The QH could be a handful, but that’s what made him such an awesome horse. Jon laughed and untacked Montana, putting him in his stall. The 15 y/o gave the gelding a carrot and then walked over to Zoe’s stall. The Paint filly tossed her head and shoved past him, snorting haughtily. “You have to learn some manners!” Jon said, hooking her in crossties. He brushed the filly’s glossy coat and smiled. She was gorgeous. She nipped him playfully and then snorted, pleased with herself. “Ha ha.” Jon said, tapping her muzzle firmly. He hooked a lunge line to the exuberant filly and led her out to the ring. She snorted eagerly and pranced forward as Jon started her on a circle. “C’mon, Zoe.” He said. She pricked her ears forward delicately and relaxed some more, her strides stretching out nicely. “She would make an okay english horse with those big gliding strides.” Susan said briskly as she walked up. “No way!” Jon protested. Susan smiled and walked on. Zoe picked up a steady jog, at Jon’s signal. “Good girl.” He praised happily. He put her through all her gaits both directions and then led her to the barn, pleased :-) [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
