Dana pulled into the Oak Ridge Farm parking lot. Joey and Jonathan jumped out of the car and began to put the ramp of the horse trailer down. they unloaded their horses while I talked to Dana. When the boy's where ready, Dana went to visit with Gone with the Wind and my other horses while I explained some things to Jonathan and Joey. 'Today, we're going to work and jump our horses out in the open. Since we're going to be out in the open, we're going to need some extra equipment. First, this is a safty vest. Jonathan, this one should fit you. Joey , this one should fit you. A saftey vest protects your upper body if you fall while going fast. Today, we're just going to get our horses used to the new equitment, as we as get our selves used to it.
Joey, what is this called?" I said. "A martingale." He said.
"Good, what kind?' I said. "Running." He replied. "Very good. We'll try Mr. Snazzy with a running and Thunderbolt with a standing. We can always change the type. This is called a breast collar. It keeps your saddle in place as you gallop up and down hills. This, of course, is the english version. This is an overgirth. It keeps your saddle in place and holds it on incase the girth breaks. Finally, these are bellboots and theses are splint boots. They protect your horses legs." I finished. I showed them how to put the stuff on their horses. We then headed for The jumper ring. "Ok, boys. They've walked a bit to get here so start trotting." I said. Thunderboly lifted his feet high. He didn't know what to make of the bellboots. "Keep him moving Jonathan, don't let him stop. Joey, that looks good." I said. They trotted around a bit before they cantered. The horses were getting used to everything. "Ok, walk and reverse." I called out. while they walk, I walked out and set the jumps. They where between 1'6" and 2'. "Joey, I want to see you canter a figuire 8. Flying lead changes please." I said. Joey did them perfectly. "Ok, Jonathan do the same thing with simple changes." I said. He too did really well. The boys jumped. Their horses jumped a little higher in the air than usual, but where good. They cooled them out on the way back to the barn. "Good job guys. Next time maybe we'll try hacking out in my field." I said. I helped them untack and took my tack and stuff into the tack room. Dana and I helped them get their horses ready to be shipped. I helped them load. I said goodbye to them. They left. I them walked into the barn and began to fed.
