Good point. If your knew, beyond any doubt, that this world wasn't real, you'd might as well jump into another. Unfortunately, you could never know beyond any doubt. If I came to you tomorrow with two pills, how would you know that I wasn't trying to trick you. Maybe the pill neo took made him go crazy and he's actually sitting in an asylum somewhere, and Morpheus is just some assassin hired by his ex-girlfriend. Once again, I doubt this is the direction the movie will take, but in real life, it be a question you'd have to ask yourself while sitting in a clanky metal ship eating soggy corn-flakes. Again, you couldn't be sure that the world you left was fake and the world your in is real.

But the underlying issue here is that you are uncomfortable with your life. It's the FIGHT CLUB philosophy (which is a great movie you should watch). Maybe your lack of purpose is simply that, a lack of purpose, and not some 2-million level conspiracy to void you of direction. Get a religion. Get a hobby. Get a girlfriend. Get real.
