I disagree with anyone saying that homepages don't fit into Goffman's criterion for identity through acting. Everything we do from the way we write to the way we dress is an 'act'. That isnt to say it isnt a true representation of ourselves, just a forced one.

For one thing, the internet didnt even exist when Goffman wrote "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life'. the internet today is everyday life for most of us. We all are immensely aware of how we come across through our emails, blogs, ims and homepages and 'perform' for our visitors. However, performance on homepages is limited since we cannot change them everyday unlike how we behave differently in our interactions with different people.In this respect homepages severly limit 'performance' or creation of identity, but newer innovations like blogs allow for a more performance based internet.
