Montreal, PQ - The Maurauders have announced that rookie head coach and taskmaster John Tortorella will receive a playoff bonus for his work last season. Tortorella, who had never coached in the GWHL before, led a youngish rag-tag team to a playoff berth just one year after the team finished in the league basement.

"John wildly exceeded our expectations," said GM Sean Gallagher, "it was his leadership that brought this team around so quickly. Trust me, I'd love to say that is was all general managership, but Torts is the biggest reason. It's a damn shame that he didn't get any consideration as coach of the year last year, but we hope to offset that oversight with a montary bonus."

Tortorella placed the praise at the feet of his team.

"We made some big changes along the way last year, but no matter the lineup, my boys responded to our message. I'm looking forward to a good year this season."

Tortorella comes into Year Two with better weapons than Year One started with. It's up to him to make the same message effective two years in a row. The Eastern Conference is tough, so every game matters.

For now, Tortorella and Gallagher are spending their time preparing for the waiver draft. With no key players to expose this season, they'll be hoping to pick up another key addition as they did last year.
