(HALIFAX)-On the heels of signing blueliner Wade Reden away from the Whitehorse Warriors, Halifax GM Stephen J. Holodinsky was at it again, this time orchestrating a deal with the London Lasers that sees one time Harpoon Chris Pronger re-united with his former teammates. In addition to Pronger the Harpoons also recieved London's first round pick in 2011. Going to London were Cory Cross, Jeff Jillson, defense prospect David Hale and Halifax's first rounder in 2010. In addition to that Cross will play summer hockey in the Czech Republic for HC Plzen at Halifax's expense.
"While moving Cross, Jillson and Hale might seem like a steep price to pay for any player, we felt justified in anteing up in order to land Chris," explained the Halifax GM. "We've had him here before, he knows the system, and we feel he along with Redden are going to make up for the fact that we had to trade Blakey earlier this off-season."
London GM Ryan Archer released the following statement pertaining to the trade:
"With (Peter)Forsberg on slated to return from this year the London Lasers needed to make room on there cap for him. The Lasers are please to have two young defencemen added to the roster as well as rugged defencemen Cory Cross to give the Laser more toughness. With commitments already to (Nik)Lidstrom, Pronger was the obvious choice to move. The Laser's hope the best for Pronger with his new team."
It is rumoured that Wade Redden will join Cross in the Czech Republic this summer, which will give Halifax a defense that is undoubtedly the envy of the league. Center Marc Savard has already been confirmed as the other placement in the Czech League. He will be playing for Prague.
