Blades GM Neil Hayes didn't waste much time in acquiring what he was looking for.

Earlier this afternoon Hayes pulled the trigger on two seperate deals, one with the Harpoons from Halifax and the other with the Saskatoon Silos.

The first deal with the Harpoons saw the Blades deal away highly regarded prospects Noah Welch and Ryan Malone. In return the Blades received Mattias Weinhandl and Stanislav Chistov.

"We really like both Malone and Welch, but both the players we acquired are also young and are able to play right now and help this club win another championship" explained Hayes. "I have shown in the past that I will make the necessary trades if it can help us win a championship, and the opportunity to help this club came along, so I took it."

Weinhandl's red hot play in the minors this season will translate into a tryout on Yellowknife's top line with Mike Modano and Markus Naslund. This will push Doan to the 3rd line and give the team better depth and insurance in case of injury.

The second deal, albeit a minor one, saw Yellowknife gain a #7 dman in Nolan Pratt for a 2008 3rd rounder. Pratt will dress should any of the top six defenseman get hurt.

It appears that the Blades will stick with what they have now heading into the playoffs, but with Hayes at the helm, you never know.
