In yet another bold move to solidify a somewhat shaky lineup the Montreal Marauders last night completed an eight player swap with the Whitehorse Huskies. The move saw Montreal GM Sean Gallagher send away several players considered to be building blocks for the future.

"I felt that we had an opportunity to improve our team, and not just in the short run," said Gallagher, "we gave up a raft of players that I didn't want to lose, but Robin [Park, Whitehorse GM] knew what he wanted and wasn't unreasonable in his request. It was a tough deal to do, but I'm sure both sides are happy with the end result."

The finalized agreement sees Todd Bertuzzi, Bryan Berard and Adam Oates coming to Montreal, while Sergei Samsonov, Wade Redden, Pierre Turgeon and Tim Connolly are headed to Whitehorse. Top prospect Alex Frolov is also included in the package.

Bertuzzi joins Brendan Shanahan and Adam Deadmarsh as one of the most intimidating group of power forwards in the game. The move also frees Montreal from Pierre Turgeon's contract and gives top line minutes to centerman Patrick Marleau, who is expected to lead the way for Montreal in the next few seasons.

"We also managed to add a great playmaker with tons of experience in Adam Oates. I hated to lose Redden as well, but Berard will step in this year and fill his spot. I felt like we have the organizational depth at defense to make a move like this."

Montreal is rumored to still be searching for some defensive minded forwards to solidify the team's checking line, but no further details are available.
