Jagr traded to Toronto!

In what can only be described as a blockbuster trade, Jaromir Jagr’s short tenure with the Quebec Remparts came to a sudden end on Sunday. Shortly after he scored his team leading 9th goal of the year, he was informed that he had been traded to Toronto. An emotional Jagr was obviously surprised by the trade, but noted that he had heard whispers that something like this might happen. “It’s no secret that I make a lot of money”, Jagr was quoted as saying, “and the team has been drawing poorly so far this season…something had to give”

Going to the cash rich Toronto organization along with Jagr are Chris Osgood, Steve Rucchin, and Mike Comrie. All four players had been offseason additions, and all except for Comrie were big-ticket players. “This was not a salary dump!” screamed GM Belanger of Quebec. “We received some excellent young players in return. “Dvorak, Tanguay, and Lalime are going to be stars for a long time in this league! Zhamnov gives us another option down the middle and will improve our powerplay.”

That may be true, but when you give up the best player in the deal and shed $10,000,000 off your payroll, more than a few eyebrows will be raised. “That may be true…but lets look at the facts here. We are going to be hard pressed just to make the playoffs, let alone win a cup. We are a small market team, and we just can’t justify spending $50,000,000 on salaries at this point. In a couple of years when all of these players mature together, then we will be the buying team, not the selling one!”

These move enables Quebec to hang on to fan favorite Luc Robitaille, who was rumoured to be heading out of town. Of course this was not because of production, but because of his salary. He, Marc Savard, and Anson Carter made up a dangerous third line, and they will remain in tact once Carter gets healthy. An obviously relieved Robitaille was sad to see his teammates traded, but looked forward to the new additions. “Look at our goalies now…we have a great veteran in Hackett, and 3 blue chip French guys to push him. I spoke to Mr. Belanger and my agent and begged them not to trade me! I want to get into acting after we’ve won the cup, and what better place to start than my home province. You saw me in that “EA Sports” commercial….I was dynamic! Daigle has nothing on me…he’s a chump!”

Quebec will unveil their new roster tomorrow night against their cross province rivals in Montreal.
