HALIFAX)-Andy Murray just shook his head early this season when the critics of Halifax old and older goaltenders, pointed to a team floundering to find the .500 mark. "I knew that they'd come around," says the coach. "They are both veteran netminders and have been through this countless times before. It was just a matter of time before they both got back to their normal games." The first year coach is proving to be prophetic at least when it comes to Sean Burke. Over the past 3 games Burke has let only 4 of 59 shots get by him as the Halifax side has rumbled to victories over Quebec (5-1), Winnipeg (8-2) and London (6-1).

"It helps a goalie out an awful lot when your team scores for you and takes away the second shot," said Burke deflecting the praise from himself. But make no mistake, the veteran has had to break in a new defenseman in Brent Sopel following the Vladimir Malakhov trade, and the forwards have rarely all been healthy at the same time which can wreak havoc on a lineup. "It's been an adventure at times but our guys have never forgotten their defensive responsibilities. That's what makes a champion."

There has been criticism of late of the fact that while the team is piling up the points against the dregs of both conferences it has dropped the last three tilts it's had against Victoria and Calgary. "Ah, but we weren't healthy for any of those games," comments Burke. "We didn't have Lindros for the two games against the Cougars and against Victoria Ziggy Palffy was down." Still, injuries or no, until the team beats those two, there will be questions about whether the Harpoons have the internal fortitude to get the Hoser Cup.
