(HALIFAX)-In an effort to insure that their center corps remains strong throughout the season, the Halifax Harpoons traded with the Whitehorse Warriors for Mark Messier today.

"In getting Messier, we feel we've addressed any health concerns the team might have over Eric Lindros and at the same time brought in a leader extraordinaire. There is simply no one better in the dressing room that the Moose," commented Stephen J. Holodinsky at a hastily called press conference. "It's true we had to give up some good youth to get him, but we have a plethora of picks next year and we had a good draft this season. We could afford to pay the asking price."

And what was the price of Mark Messier? Two young forward prospects apparently. Going to Whitehorse in the deal were Brian Gionta and Christian Berglund. To be sure the Moose didn't come cheaply, but if he brings the Hoser Cup to Halifax after last year's debacle in the finals, then this deal will look like a steal.
