(CALGARY)-It didn't take long for Harpoons Owner/GM Stephen J. Holodinsky to show his displeasure with his club's effort in the Hoser Cup Final after being ousted from the big dance for the second time in three years. Coach Larry Robinson was shown the door immediately after the game and the veteran laden team was broken up in an effort to shake up the chemistry.

"We brought Robinson in here specifically with an eye on the Hoser Cup Finals and he didn't deliver the goods," commented the boss. "We had had discussions with him about an extension but everything was dependant on whether he won this series. He didn't, and because of that he is a casualty of the coaches game." Asked who would replace Robinson the GM would only comment that several candidates have been made aware of the Halifax club's interest in them. "We'll bring in some folks over the next few days and talk with them. As of this moment there is no coach in waiting."

But that wasn't all. Holodinsky apparently had some player moves pending and okayed them all shortly after the 4-3 decision.

Going to Quebec is right winger Alexander Mogilny in return for London's 1st round pick in 2004, which the Rems have the rights to, and Quebec's 2nd round pick in 2004. Going to Toronto is Robert Svehla and 500,000$ in return for the Trojan's 2nd round pick in 2004 and their 2nd in 2006. Going to Ottawa is veteran blueliner Al MacInnis in return for future considerations. However, those three deals pale in comparision to the big trade worked out with Whitehorse. The Harpoons will part with Adam Oates, minor league phenom Mike Comrie and sparkplug Matt Cooke. Coming over from Whitehorse will be franchise center in training wheels Joe Thornton and the rights to Yellowknife's 1st round pick in 2006 which Whitehorse presently holds.

"Both Oates and Mogilny were expected to be difference makers for us in the playoffs, yet despite the fact that both were on the third line, away from the other teams top guns, they didn't come through," explained Holodinsky. "As for Mac and Svehla it was simply a numbers game. We have Greg DeVries and Mattias Ohlund coming over from Montreal and Steeltown respectively plus Vladimir Malahkov coming back from surgery. All three are better players than the ones they are replacing."

It's obvious that Thornton will be taking over for Oates on the third line, however it looks as if Peter Bondra will be moving over to the right side while Shawn Bates will get the call form the Dartmouth Clippers to fill his spot on the left wing. "We are all very impressed with Shawn. He brings some much needed grit to the lineup and he plays a complete game."
