"Yes, it is worth it. If you don't think it is worth
it, you're on the wrong site."
No, it's not worth it. Just because you're on this site doesn't mean that you condone the behavior. Anorexia and Bulimia are like alcoholism or drug addiction.
You do it because you have no choice and can't stop...you know it's not worth it but aren't ready to seek help. I know because I want more than anything to recover. I've tried about 4 times already and I keep fucking up.
I'm here because right now I'm not strong enough to say no. But looking back, I'd give anything to have never found out how to purge. The road sucks and it'll fuck up the rest of your life. The ironic thing is that it makes you fat. If you can restrict your calories to 1200 and exercise moderately everyday, you will lose more weight and keep it off for long term.
If you purge, you'll lose weight but will eventually have to stop b/c your hair will start to fall out, your teeth will become sensitive, you'll eventually get caught, your kidneys (lower back) will become tender and hurt b/c you've fucked up your electrolyte and acid/base levels so badly that your kidneys become swollen trying to compensate for the waste in your blood...one day you'll have a heart attack (thank god i never got to this point), you'll become constipated and will stop digesting food normally, and lastly, you'll just look ill.
You'll be skinny...maybe...if your "good at it" but you'll be sick-looking-skinny. Guys think it's gross, eventually you'll think you look gross, your friends and family will think you look gross and worry about you constantly. You'll hate yourself more because everytime you binge you feel like a failure and then when you purge you feel even worse b/c you know you're setting yourself up to just do it again. You won't be able to stop b/c it's a disease...an addiction.
I hope I didn't offend anyone...I'm just telling it how it is from the point of view of a girl who's been there, done that, is still there and is trying...slowly but surely, to get out.
