Jason, Organized karting rules state that the age of the racer on Jan 1 determines the class that your racer can run that year. Jr1 is 8-12yrs old. If your Driver was 8 years old on Jan 1st then agewise he would be okay for either the Beginner or the Jr1 class. Even if he turns 9 years old before or during the season he would still be able to race the 8 and under class. Hope this helps.
