I have a Miller 185, 230v MIG welder.

I sure ain’t no expert, but I would say it depends a lot on what you’ll be welding. If you will be welding thicker metals, ¼” and up, you might want the 175 even if it’s 230v. If you are mainly welding sheet metal, a 135 is plenty. Being able to run on 120v would be convenient.

I don’t know, but I’ve heard that in some cases, the 230v machines have a more stable arc than 115v machines, but I don’t know this to be a fact.

I went down to Home Depot and bought a heavy-duty 10-gage extension cord, cut the plugs off and added 230v plugs so I can move my welder around the garage. My 185 has 6 power settings, 1 thru 6. I very seldom use 6 and only occasionally use 5.
