What you are seeing are craters. When you come to the end of a weld you must decrease the amperage you are welding at and then add one droplet of filler wire, then smoothly cut the amperage completely off. If you pull off of the molten weld pool quickly you will pull a pinhole in the backside of the weld. Just remember to a a drop to the molten pool before you decrease your welding current and you will solve all of your problems......IF you are not using a foot pedal for amperage control then you must add the rod to the pool and retreat back over the surface you have just completed where the metal has already solidified and draw the arc of to eliminate the pinhold previously mentioned. This is what is required for making " water clear" welds that will pass RT examination
