I have done this myself many times and Mig is best suited. Because it is stainless the faces/shafts need to be aligned 100% otherwise the material work hardens and breaks in no time, stainless has no give. Also the shaft has to be tacked (approx 4 tacks in the form of a cross), each tack has to be immediately followed by its opposite tack with minimal heat, then once all tacks are in place you can fully weld the shaft. If you don't do this the heat in the stainless will cause your shaft to run untrue no matter how well you had aligned it, the beauty of stainless, good luck...
