Hi Lena!
For philantropy, look for stuff to do on campus, there is usually tons! Also, think about helping out a girlscout troop by volunteering for an overnight or something else where they need lots of adults. Its very fun (unless you get the "bad kids" group which can be pretty hard to work with, but usually some of them are still eager to please). Also, check and see if your school gives grants- we are doing a "junior day" for g.s. in feb., and hopefully we will manage it with little or no cost to us (we are at Ohio State). Coke has already promised us juice to give the girls :)
Also, there are a lot of people in service right now, you could send care packages- even a big box of candy is really appreciated by the people who are serving our country.
Good luck!
:)
