Ways You Can Participate in National Engineers Week

 Contact your local elementary, middle, or high school to participate as a judge during their Science and Technology Fairs. Many schools hold science fairs this time of year, and are looking for judges to review students’ projects.

 Contact a teacher or principal to speak at a local elementary, middle, or high school and provide hands-on experiments relevant to engineering and engineering careers.

 Contact your local Engineering Council or local professional engineering societies (e.g. AIChE, IEEE, ASME, SWE, etc.) to see what they are doing for Engineers Week. You may be able to co-sponsor an activity with these organizations.

 Write an article on Engineers Week and any local activities on your campus for the campus and local newspapers. Write a letter to your local newspaper editor letting him/her know about the importance of engineering to your community.

 Present a demonstration for local high school science and math clubs.

 Plan a special recognition luncheon or dinner for engineering majors and invite your campus President and Dean of Engineering.

 Organize an extracurricular program for young students, such as a campus tour or competition. Build spaghetti bridges, race boats, perform an egg-drop competition, or fly paper airplanes.

 Contact a local speakers bureau (try the Chamber of Commerce and local professional chapters of engineering societies) to schedule a speaker on the engineering profession for your group or campus.

 Organize a walking or bus tour of interesting engineering achievements in the community.

 Help with a local MATHCOUNTS competition that occurs during Engineers Week.

 Contact a local middle or high school and have a student shadow you during your classes.

 Contact a local science center. Offer to run a hands-on demo.

 Work with your local chapters of Boys & Girls Club. Or work with a local Boy or Girl Scouts troop to assist them in working on technology-related badges.
