The first volume was published in 1992, so it might have began serialization back in 1991.

I really don't think it's just a "capitalist" venture...mangaka (and this is a generalization, though I bet it's true for just about all) do what they do because they enjoy it. Artists of any sort are like that (as well as people in other professions). ^^ I think I said this before somewhere else, but I bet the reason they're taking such a long break from "X" (and "Gouhou Drug") is because they're cranking out "Tsubasa" and "XXXholic". Nevertheless, "X" has been running for too long and its about time CLAMP ended it. The fans who started out reading it back in '92 are grown-ups and probably generally speaking don't follow it anymore, while the majority of the current fans were in elementary school back then. Not to mention "X" gets a lot of criticism for being whole lot of nothing that's been running for too long (I don't agree with the first part, but I do with the second).

*le sigh*

I have a feeling that we won't be seeing it in Asuka again until the January or February issue, thus making me sad. I weep.
