I say, if you want to have a baby go ahead. But I'm about the same age as you and I'm terrified at having another baby. I'm not sure why. Several older sims in my neighborhood have had children when they were nearing the elder stage of their lives and they didn't have any problems as far as I know. My parents were about our age when I was born. My dad died when I was a teenager, but my mom lived long enough to see me get married. My husband's parents were even older when they had him. His father was already an elder when he was born and his mom became an elder when he was still a baby. My mother-in-law said his birth was actually easier than his older brother's. They lived long enough to meet our older daughter, Julia, but they used the elixir, because they wanted to make sure they would be around long enough to see my husband, Sid, become an adult.
There's definitely a chance you'll see them reach adulthood, but to be on the safe side you'll want to make sure someone, like maybe your older children, will be willing to look after your youngest child, just in case something happens.
