I've never experienced being a dad, but I was adopted by a single guy and I wanted to let you know I think it's fantastic.

Andy, my adoptive father, adopted me when I was four years old. I never really knew why, and never will as he passed away just under a year ago, but I've always been very glad he did.

I suppose you could say I didn't exactly get a conventional upbringing and a lot of people were against Andy being able to adopt me, but I was always very happy. I don't really think I missed out on anything either through being adopted by Andy instead of a family, and in a way it made things easier...

Anyway, I suppose what I'm saying is if you think you're ready for it you should just go ahead! Don't let other people's opinions stand in the way.
