As far as the being scared when you're not with other people on stage, perhaps you could try some visualisation and meditation exercises - if you don't want to be alone on the stage, visualise others with you.

And don't panic - the nerves get less the more you get up and do it! :0) So pluck up your courage and sing your heart out - just enjoy yourself!

I can recommend a very good performing arts Summer School : Lights, Music, Action! The course is in August 2005 and not only will you get to experience performing in front of people [the week ends with an all-singing, all-dancing, all-acting show of all shows!] but you'll get to meet others in a similar situation as yourself AND have a fantastic time!
