Funny me and my husband were just talking about that. We always go to Teddy's in Oshawa for a good meal. Or East Side in Bowmanville. We were wondering why we only have the locally owned places here. Where is Craby Joes going to be? I'd like to see Walmart here to but I think the old Canadian Tire is to small.
I second it for an Outback.

It's going in next to the new Canadian Tire.

Five years ago I work in a local restuarant for 15 years.
The reason there were no big franchises is because on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the winter you could shoot off a canon in any of the restuarants in town. We were a popular restaurant the required about 12 staff member on a Friday night but on a monday one person could handle the night "crowd". There was just no business in town.

A lot of people go for a meal after shopping or a movie. Now...where are you going to be...certainly not Port Perry.

The BIA has opposed any competion in the retail area for years. (Those are the people who own the cute little over-priced store on Queen street). So Port Perry was stagnant.

They claim Port Perry is a tourtist destination. But what do we have to attract tourists...one mangy motel, a polluted beach, and cute little over-price shops. They were under the illution that they were as good a Niagra-on-the-Lake or Stratford. Even out tourist pamphlet claimed us to be the "Most Beautiful Small Town is Southern Ontario" My guess is they don't get out much!!!

It's about time the town fathers(and mothers) realize that the only way Port Perry will survive is as a bedroom comunity and I see nothing wrong with that !

OK, I feel better now !!!!

[> [> [> Eating out during the week -- Jeannie (forum admin), 20:37:50 01/18/05 Tue

Well, hubby and I eat out regularly in the evening but, because the restaurants and pubs in Port Perry are so overpriced (and have you seen the price of the evening Casino buffet recently - ouch!), we have been choosing restaurants in Brooklin, Oshawa, Whitby, Pickering and Ajax after work. More choice and good food.

Saying that though, our favourites in Port, that we still go to in the evenings, are:

- the revamped Burger Bar (next to the Beer Store) - good home-made food;

- Jester's Court - 2 levels of food: good and resonably-priced pub grub, and yer normal restaurant-grade food (some of it is awesome - but that's just my opinion);

- Captain George's Fish 'n Chips - has anyone tried their burgers? They're incredible!

- Francesca's Fine Dining - great service and increasingly good quality food;

- Blue Heron Casino - used to be on my list, but the low quality of (dried up) food no longer matches the price of the evening buffet.

What other opinions are there from local residents?
