Hi, Jeannie...
the comings and goings of the ice have fascinated me for years, the ice is constantly changing all thru the season, most notably the ice going out. But, i think the day the lake freezes is just as important.
i dont think there is an official 'ice in' contest, but the ice out contest is a long standing tradition. Last years ice out was spectacular on the Caesarea side. the ice piled up in huge slabs in a roaring west wind...it was amazing!!!

Are you located in/around Caesarea?
I love photography, so I'm going to diary that I need to be around that area when the ice starts to go.....

i am an avid picture taker, certainly no expert, but that lake is very photogenic...

the sunsets from this side of the lake are always amazing...

i have hundreds of pics of the lake...
