Hi Natasha,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
**How is the quality of the public schools?
Can't answer this - our kid left school before we arrived in Port Perry. Give the Town Hall a call and ask there. Their website is www.township.scugog.on.ca.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
**Is it a "Bedroom community" meaning are there a lot of commuters?
Don't think so. There is a large older community here. Obviously, being remote, most work places require travel. But the town certainly isn't dead during the working day, so I guess the answer is "no"!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
**How is the traffic from those travelling to Oshawa or the Casino?
Travel to Oshawa is very easy and traffic trouble-free, I find.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
**Does the Casino create any problems?
I live on the Island and find that the traffic is starting to get quite heavy, and aggressive (far more so than in the town). But that is only on the main Island Road. Once off to the side roads sanity takes over.....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
**What kind of community participation is there? (i.e. Are there activities going on?)
There are LOADS of activities in the town, both summer and winter. Especially if you are an outdoors type. You can start with the Town Hall, the Leisure Centre and then get in touch with the numerous local groups, depending upon what you are looking for.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
**We have grown accustomed to all the activities and facilities that Toronto has to offer. Since we have a child, we are looking for a place that would meet her needs while she is growing up. What I mean by that, is that I would like to put her in sports, drama, dance, art classes, etc...
Is there a community centre where I can get information about events and activities?

See above!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
**personal feelings or insights
I just LOVE living here. The countryside is beautiful, the drivers are nowhere near as aggressive as those in Toronto or even, where we used to live, Aurora (York Region), and most of them know how to drive in snow!!
We live in a small community, where just about everyone knows everyone else, and we knew half our neighbours within 2 weeks of moving in. Just LOVE it !!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you are looking for a house, I can highly recommend the real estate agent we used to buy ours - she's good and lots of fun - Shirley Cowle of Remax. Let me know if you want her number.
Take care, and good luck!
Jeannie

Jeannie,
Thank-you so much for taking the time to respond to all my questions. I really appreciate your input. We will have to drive up again so that we can have another look. I really liked what I saw the last time we were there. I'm not sure when the chance to go up will be. I work during the week and my husband works weekends. Hopefully it will be soon though. It is nice to have you and the message board to have my questions and concerns addressed.
Thanks again and I appreciate your time, Natasha
