I think the rites of passage for the United States is a good idea, because some adloscents need to at least get an idea of when it is time to GROW UP....even if they don't follow suit. Most younga adults still have an adolescent mindset because I don't think they are aware of the fact that they are not children, adolescents/teenagers anymore.
Next, I am also amazed at how technology has expanded into the homes of many families and into the bedrooms of many youths. Its nothing for a 13 yr old to own a PC or even better, a DELL laptop. My boyfriend's neice begged for an ipod for Christmas and my god-daughter (4yrs.) wanted a cell phone so she could text me while she's at school!!!!
