Subject: Chapter 2

After reading Chapter 2, I became fascinated with Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Cognitive Theory. According to the reading, Vygotsky emphasized how culture and social interaction guide cognitive activities. He also taught that cognitive development is collaborative (joint/group). I absolutely agree. In order for our youth to achieve higher levels of reasoning/thinking, they have to be able to collaborate with experienced adults or same age peers. I also liked how Vygotsky focused on the importance of culture.

April, I totally agree with you and Vygotsky on collaboration. This cognitive approach produces a team or joint environment in the classroom. It also works in the work environment by building a sense of community which helps to promote positive life style changes.
