Cheerleading IS a SPORT and cheerleders ARE ATHLETES.
I cheered from third grade until my senior year in high school and cheered for all-stars and competitive squads for 6 years.

The next time someone tries to deny that cheerleading is a sport just remind them of this:

In football you get four chances to get a first down and you get as many first downs as it takes to score. There are 4 quarters in a football game and a halftime where the coach can talk to the team and come up with a new game plan if needed. If you don't score on one particular drive you always have another chance...
This is where competition cheerleading is different:
Once your squad walks out on the floor you have exactly two and a half minutes to show the judges what you can do. If someone messes up a cheerleading coach can't call a timeout and substitute in another girl. You don't get a halftime to talk about the routine a change it. If you mess up then there are no second chances. You only get one shot.

This is the difference between cheerleading and other sports.

Cheerleaders are athletes and for anyone who says different I say: Football, basketball, and baseball players toss around balls- cheerleaders toss around people. THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE.
