I don't think cheerleading is a sport unless you do competitive cheerleading. At our school, and by the way im 14 years old in 8th grade, the girls just clap their hands and go "woo woo" and all that junk. I don't find that very athletic. Furthermore, if you put cheerleading as a sport, then why can't you put band as a sport? I mean, band players have practice, they carry their heavy instruments while walking around a field (and yes, walking IS an exercise), they have to practice...it all fits in. By declaring cheerleading as a sport, I don't think it would be fair to be unjust to other people out there. Also, when you consider a REAL sport, such as soccer, the player plays for 90 minutes running most of the time. Cheerleaders? They do their little routine and get a nice little break. Then they go up again, do another cute lil routine..and oh!...time for their break. The physical activity that they do isn't for very long, so you really can't call it real exercise. Sorry if I offended anyone, but as I see it, it's not a sport.
