Recently in a drawing at a fundraising banquet for the Artesia Christian Home, we won
the biggest prize, a five-hour cruise for six on a racing yacht. (I also won the second
biggest prize, which was a four-hundred-dollar gift certificate.) It was our lucky night!

Well, yesterday we collected our prize. It was a narrow streamlined 46-foot yacht. The
day was a bit tiring for old fogies like us. It was hard to get on and off the boat (for me,
anyway). The decks were tiny and too precipitous and sloping to walk around on (not that
it bothered our kids). Especially Donna's husband Mike, who bounded around manning the
sails, pulling on ropes which did magical things, etc. Donna did lots of that too. (They are
both quite experienced at sailing.) And David used to have his own smaller sailboat--but
hasn't sailed anything big like this. This one seemed small to Donna and Mike.

We each took turns steering. The yacht is very responsive, almost like a car. This picture
shows Donna steering, and shows all the rest of us except Mike, who took the picture.
Seated l to r, Judy, David's wife; David; me and Grant.
