It's not right to think of these as funny because most of them involved pain....but then again...!
River Valley GC, 1st hole, circa 12 years ago;
When 2-putt-Pat hit a daisy cutter headed for the bushes and his mother was 75 yards up the fairway and bravely stopped it going in with her shin by jumping to the left then to the right back to the left again and OUCH! She still bares the scar to this day.
Crimson Ridge GC, Sault Ste Marie, circa 6 years ago;
When Peter Sidney was attempting to punch a 5-iron down the fairway and hit the ground about 12 inches behind the ball shovelling up a beaver pelt 10" long and the ball never even wobbled and he turned to me with his club still embedded in the turf, grimaced and said, "I'm not counting that one"! OUCH!
Stratford Municipal GC, 8th tee, circa 5 years ago;
When Ken Byrne, Kenny's brother-in-law swung his driver at a ball on a low tee and we all looked for the result - tee 10 yards up the middle, ball in the divot left by the driver! It never even popped up - just like the tablecloth whipped off the table trick!
Rebel Creek GC, Baden, par 5, circa 5 years ago;
When Kenny Murphy had a blind second shot and asked Phil who was about 50 yards off to the side on a piece of higher ground, "Can you keep an eye on this one"? He kept more than an eye on it! The ball squirted off the toe of the club and cracked off Phil's knee and only the latter's lightning reflexes and ability to turn on a sixpence to minimize the thwack prevented an even worse injury! OUCH!
Science Hill GC, 4th tee, circa 3 days ago;
When Phil ThreeKneeCaps attempted a 5-iron with the hushed gallery watching from the balcony behind and on his downswing his right foot slipped causing him to spin around, the club went up in the air, Phil landed on his coccyx, he was back up on his feet in an instant and said "Did anyone see where that went"?!* I don't think so! It's hard to see with tears of laughter in your eyes! On reflection it could have been his dodgy patella playing up! And he jarred his wrist to boot - that's what you get for always doing your own stuntwork!
Oh yeah, I forgot the Nate and 2Putt cart scene in the family golf tournament ... another story for another day!
