We survived skydiving although after doing it I am fairly certain I will never have the need again. Andy is ready to go right away though. I was not nervous at all until we got there and saw a group go up...up up, until you could barely make out the plane and then teeny tiny specs started to fall out of it. Also they pack you into the plane and someone has to sit right by the door that they do not fully close. All I thought was there is no way I can be that person. Of course Andy got on first...and I last, so I was that person. I was paired with a crazy man...I guess to be a tandem skydiver and do about 15 jumps a day you have to be a little crazy...he wouldn't stop talking and making jokes about passing out. I asked him if it was almost time to jump and he showed me his dial watch that said we haid reached 2000 feet so only 12000 more to go!!!!! I thought 2000 feet was high enough. It was awful when they announced time to go because all of a sudden the door was open and I had to swing around and be the first to tuck my legs under the air plane and then you basically fall. Andy heard a brief scream and I was gone. We fell...just free falling, no shoot for 60 seconds!!! Longest minute of my life and he took some of the most unflattering pictures of me I have ever seen....falling does some strange things to your skin. Also ears, they hurt like crazy and I couldn't believe how cold it was. I am getting shakey just rethinking about it. Very scary. Of course steady Eddy Andy had a completely different experience. He didn't tense up or scream or have ear pain. His jumper even told him how well he did and also let him steer when he had the shoot open....just on his own! My guy didn't trust me so much. The floating part was pretty fun except they made the silly thing do lots of spins....after falling I just wanted to be still. But after saying all that it was actually pretty amazing, scariest thing I have ever done for sure....it will make taking off in a couple weeks seem like a breeze.
We are now doing a countdown, not much time left now. Andy has checked pretty much everything off his list except the Blue Mountains which we are heading to next week...oh and San Fransisco. He is determined to cram as much as possible into the two days we have there...I was hoping to relax a little, but I don't think it is in the cards.
I am sure Danny wouldn't mind you going over, or checking in. We emailed for an update recently and he reported that they are getting quite fat and four glasses have been broken three of which were the cats. Also they knocked the toaster right off the counter and Andy deduced that it was to get to the crumbs. He also called them his cuddle buddies though so it sounds like everything is still as we left it.
That would be really nice if you took a day off when we get back...whatever day works best for you. I think we will be tired but not too bad...the jet lag will have to wear off a little in San Fran as Andy won't let me nap...too much to do.
I am looking forward to coming home though, a bed will be nice...no more van. Although I have had three months of no cold sores...odd. Longest stretch in years. It might be the blistex, it might be the warm weather...it also might be the going to bed at 8 or 9 and waking up whenever...also no job...no worries at all. We actually went to bed one night at 7:30!!! We thought it was much later, tricky early Queensland sunsets.
Sorry that one was so long,
I must away...dinner time has also gotten much earlier..we dine around 5 or 6 now as well.
We'll write again soon...keep the updates coming...any Jack stories? How is Abbey doing? Only a month away now, non? Or perhaps two?
xoxo
Erin and Andy
