Subject: What do they do in Saskatchewan for fun?

REGINA - Brandy Elliott will get to see Elton John for free when he plays in Saskatchewan this week. WooHoo! What a thrill. And all it took was 39,000 live grasshoppers. Elliott, 26, won a grasshopper-catching contest run by local radio station Z-99. The grand prize: a pair of tickets to Sir Elton's show in Saskatoon next Friday. It took her all weekend to round up the pesky critters. By the end there were bags and bags and bags. What she did is make three huge nets with the netting from screen doors and basically took our quarter ton truck and drove through the ditches. As soon you touch the grass they fly up. It was unbelievable. Counting the bugs was no small task. She took a four-litre pail of grasshoppers and counted the four-litre pail to the brim. Then she just kept pouring them into the four-litre container and assuming that's about the same amount of grasshoppers in the container. After the official count, the grasshoppers were deposited in a dumpster behind the radio station. YAY! Elliott said she's taking her roommate to the concert. Friday will be Sir Elton's first trip to Saskatchewan. What excitement! The 13,000 tickets for the show sold out within 90 minutes when they were released last month. On eBay, some were willing to pay more than $300 for a seat. And the grasshopper contest won't hurt Saskatchewan's problems with the bug. Farmers complain constantly about the pests. At their worst they can overwhelm fields and devour entire crops.
