Please read my reply to the Cairns Post article about Brookes Selection:
Dear Editor,

Having just returned as Assistant Coach with the Under 16 Boys North Queensland at the National Championships held in Adelaide, I had the opportunity to see Brooke COUPER play. Cairns hasn't had an All-Australian selection since Rowan Gray made it in Under 18's, whilst playing at Mulgrave Coastal. I can't even recall when a female basketballer last made it from Cairns.

Remember, this selection is against the best players in Australia, not just Queensland. Few players receive this honour. So I was disgusted when reading The Cairns Post on Tuesday 10-9-02 to find that at the bottom of an article about the Cairns Marlins Missing Big Guns, some 64 words dedicated to this subject. Here is an achievement not seen in this district for many years delegated to the bottom and not even a head line. I feel for Brooke, who I believe deserves better, especially considering how much she has achieve in such a small time. Secondly, I have to commend St Monica's School and Cairns Basketball for producing such a star. I apologise that we couldn't get better recognition for such an achievement locally.

Further, I congratulate Brooke personally for her selection and pass on best wishes from every member of Mulgrave Coastal Basketball who feel proud to see local talent achieve such an award. I know there are many male and female juniors who would love to be in your boots and only dream of achieving such success. Well done. To the Cairns Post, I can't for the life of me understand how you could only give it 64 words at the bottom of another article.
