Finally, a realistic response. Not that I've really been waiting for this, but it's relieving to see the band actually responding to my diatribe rather than sidestepping and letting the mob at me. Whoever the fuck I was responding to before had total shit for brains. As for my issue with the band, the distaste lies more with your fans than with your talent. I honestly can say that you guys are talented at what you do. The "what you do" is the questionable element here. My bitch with you guys lies in the fact that you have already seemed to outline your style as one "for the fans" and "for fun." You're hung up with positivism of pop. I normally don't care about this, as I've realized that pop is the inevitable "dark side" of the art and music worlds that is as inseperable from the other side as night is from day. However, it irks me to no end that this is the music that college students are gathering around these days. And it really fucking blows that serious musicians have to work so much harder to get folk's attention all the time. Perhaps that is the fate they are bound to. It's usually the same with all true art. As in literature, the true poets are only elevated posthumously; after they endure lives of exile, persecution, public ignorance, etc..
In the all and all, yours is a guilt by association. I've already harangued your fans to tears with my hatred for Jersey's abject scenesterism, which is easily a byproduct of Jersey's shit-canned suburban development. I just hate seeing groups of kids with instruments who decide consciously to think inside of the box. The goal of music as an art form, if taken seriously, should be to break down the set guidelines and blaze a new trail into the darkness. And one does not have to forsake the "people", because in time, even they will come around and accept your spirit of adventure in sound. So, like I said, you guys are good and tight at what you do, but what you do has been done already and should be expanded upon.
