Dear Belizeans,
I write in solidarity of all victims of Pageants Belize Ltd. What occurred last week -- that is staging a Miss Belize Pageant in a living room is completely non-sense, disrespectful and irregular. It hurts all Belizeans both at home and abroad to know that the once prestigious event which all of us looked forward to has come to being a “chosen-few” empire. Never in the history of the Miss Belize Pageant have there been widespread complaints about the managing company. Disqualifying one of your own beauty queens for speaking out the truth of mismanagement and mistreatment is down right improper. Instead of stripping queens of their title for speaking what is the right thing to do, Ms. Johnson should have admit the allegations and made immediate adjustments in order to correct the errors. This would ensure that the future of Miss Belize and our hopeful young women will not be affected again by such abnormality.
The Miss Belize Pageant is an event that engages and helps to bring our Belizean women together to promote the culture, the people, the country; it represents unity, poise, national pride, beauty, talent and respect. It shouldn’t be a medium for self-enrichment or a royal flush canopy. Knowing that the public is no longer needed or at least don’t have a say to who should be crowned Miss Belize really hurt pageant fanatics, and all Belizeans. A next thing that was noticed with Johnson’s living room pageant was that it’s the first Miss Belize crowned designated to the Miss World pageant. All past Miss Belize winners were designated to the Miss Universe Pageant. If Felicita Arzu was disqualified as Miss Belize World, then the 1st Runner-up Sharlene Green should have taken up that position and crowned Ms. Chinapen. There was no room to crown Ms. Chinapen Miss Belize Universe because Pageants Belize still owes Tanisha Vernon a right to represent Belize at the Miss Universe Pageant. It shows how the committee lacks gesture and commitment to keeping the standards of Miss Belize on a higher level.
Pageants Belize Ltd has been entrusted and thus given the right to run the Miss Belize contest therefore their development plan for Belizean young women shouldn’t be to treat our young women unfairly. Since growing up as a young Belizean, I have always observed Miss Belize as something great _____something that helps to upgrade and helps to promote all things Belizeans. But the recent ridiculous happenings whereby the Executive Director of Pageants Belize Ltd is making so many broken promises to her own queens, delegates and associated partners speaks for itself that the body itself doesn’t epitomize the qualities of Miss Belize no longer. What it represents is an organization that is crude and is using force, biasness, and interference to accommodate a safe sanctuary for only an elite few. Belizeans cannot stand to see that one person is trying to takeaway something that belongs to Belize and doing her own thing with it. What Ms. Johnson is currently doing creates an illusion of what the Pageants Belize Limited really represented.
It is in simple logic to understand that Margaret Johnson is only making Pageants Belize Ltd and the Miss Belize Pageant a complete disaster. She should be banned from Pageantry in Belize immediately and be subjected to intense investigation of corruption and maladministration of our Belizean pageant.
