Meth is heated up to turn from its crystal form to gas. The user inhales the smoke and it re-crystallizes on there lungs. This is how they get high. The second hand smoke can get you high also, but it also will re-crystallize on everything in the house. Washing everything down is the only way to get rid of it. In time I would think the humidity in they air may dilute the meth also. A good way to create your own humidity is to boil two pots of water on your stove. Keep filling the posts with water and after a good 4 hours you will see your walls start to drip and sweat with humidity. You can wipe the walls and everything to get rid of cigarette smoke residue, and meth smoke residue.

If I was in your shoes Heather I would look on the web for documentation of the harms of meth smoke, or call a treatment center for info, or a doctor that knows about meth smoke. You just may need to find someone with more substantial facts then this site, so it holds up better in court. Good Luck.

Catest from KCI first hand experience with meth re-crystallizing on everything. Catest is answering a question that someone asked about second hand meth smoke:
I didn't smoke it "around" my children. I smoked it in my bedroom and bathroom behind locked doors. I thought I was being good...opening a window, turning on the ceiling fan, not letting my kids sleep in my room anymore for any reason.

But sometimes, the door was opened...and they came in. Never while I was acively smoking...but it was still not a safe place for them to be near.

My 4 year old son...I get teary-eyed when I remember this...his clean clothes were sitting in my bedroom. I didn't think it would be an issue. After a night of massive smoking by me and my tweaker buddies, the clothes were put away in his room the next day. That day, I had to watch my 4 year old son TWEAK. I kid you not, that boy was high. Kids have energy, but...no way. And even in my altered mental state, I still knew it was wrong and cruel. But did I re-wash them? Or think about quitting? Not till a couple months later.

He still has "itchies" all over his legs and feet. Even after everything has been cleaned and sanitized and disinfected. Some say it may not be from the meth. I say, he and I are the only ones with skin like this...along with my using pals. My hubby has em, too, but his are not as severe. My other son...not a spot or scab.

I know this was long and I don't know if I was able to get my point across. I will never condemn anyone here. You know it was wrong or you wouldn't have come here. You can hear that voice inside, the "Mommy", and she's probably real tore-up about this. Listen to her.

From Go Ask Alice. A little about re-cystalization in the lungs:

Smoking Meth & Your Lungs
I was told not to hold the meth in when I smoke it.
What happens when it recrystalizes in your lungs?
Answer: This seems to be the biggest meth myth (the most widespread.)
Meth *always* recrystalizes in your lungs, it can't enter your blood stream as a vapor. The way it works is on contact with the much cooler tissue it cools and reforms coating the insides of your lungs (the same way it resolidifies and coats the pipe you use), methamphetimine HCL is water soluble and so is dissolved by the naturally occuring fluid inside your lungs.
The reason your lungs hurt, is due to the fact that the stuff is very dehydrating and dryies out what it touches (since it is a salt an all..) and the fact that the vapor you're inhaling is very hot (meth melts at about 170 celcius and is generally smoked rather hotter than that.) Other reasons are due to the chemicals that it is cut with or that are left over from the reaction (since nothing is 100% clean.)
Your lungs will heal in time, since it's water soluble it's impossible that it could just sit in your lungs as a solid. What won't go away so easily is its psychologically addictive properties... over time you do serious damage to your lungs as well as your heart using meth.
Stay away from the stuff. Easier said than done, and who doesn't think that they'll be the one whos just fine? Chances are you wont be.
In conclusion, yeah it recrystalizes in your lungs... always, it isn't a matter of holding it in... if it doesn't recrystalie there's no way it could get you spun.
peace.
