Thank you for sharing Been There. I have to say that most of us here, the loved ones of addicts......spend the better part of their time trying to save their addict. In the time that I have been here, I have seen many come and go. Some find repreive, but most do not. Take Heather (Heather I hope you don't mind), when I first started reading of her situation (almost 14 months ago) she was going through the motions. Believing the lies, holding out hope, loving her addict . Finally after months of being hurt and disappointed and I am sure numerous talks with God she has sought out to live her life for her! And I think that is wonderful!! The point I am getting to is this, YOU CANNOT SAVE YOUR ADDICT!!! You cannot make them they way YOU WANT THEM TO BE!!!! You can not UNADDICT THEM!!!! You cannot help them UNTIL THEY BECOME READY TO HELP THEMSELF!!!! To beat your self up and drag yourself down to their level is self-defeating. And it serves no purpose. For most of us it is not only the addict who has an addiction to drugs, but it us us the family member or loved one too who also has an addiction. That which being to the addict. It is insanity!!! And nothing will ever change UNTIL SOMETHING (usually the addict) CHANGES!!!!

God truly is the only one who can help. I thank God everyday that he reached out for my hand to help me. And that he has given me the ability to share what I know to be sobriety. I pray that one day we all will be able to know what it is like to powerless over THEIR addiction, and our own.

Melinda
